I.M.A.R. 2010-2011 rules
General Rules – 1 change below
1. only difference is that all tires may be used in all classes, except that foam tires are still not allowed
o “All tires, except foam, can be used, in all classes.”
Class Rules – 3 changes below
1. Super Touring and Rally has been changed as follows
o Rule requiring cars to be 4-seater or 2+2 has been repealed
o Rule now reads – “Cars must be sedans and rally car based models (e.g. DTM, BTCC, ETCC, WTCC,WRC, SCCA Pro Rally and similar cars) “
2. Indy Car Class has been voted out
Explanation: Cars for this class are not currently very readily available and where they are, they are not the inexpensive cars they once were. Also spare parts seem unavailable so major repairs or replacement of parts is not practical.
3. Classic Sports Racers has been changed to two separate classes as follows:
3a Classic Sports Racers
- “Cars must be Fly, Monogram, GB Track or Carrera models of Can-Am sports racers (not production based) from 1966-1974.
- No magnets allowed
- You may replace rear wheels with plastic press-on (only) wheels”
Explanation: This class is for the older and less advanced Can Am cars that used to dominate Classic Sports Racers before SlotIt, Sloter and NSR cars were introduced. Most, if not all, club members already have one of these cars. This class does not allow the advanced cars such as SlotIt, Sloter or NSR and gives the older cars a class of their own.
3b A new class, Advanced Sports Racers has been created.
- “Cars must be models of Le Mans, Interserie or Can-Am sports racers (not production based) from 1966-1976
- No magnets allowed
- Motor must either be stock or Scalex black stripe may be substituted
- Axle bushings, axles, gears and wheels may be changed with Fly, Monogram, GB Track, or Carrera cars”
Explanation: It is for any manufacturer and so it does allow the advanced cars such as SlotIt, Sloter or NSR to be raced. People can race their advanced cars, race their stock Classic Sport Racers if they wish or choose to race the modified Fly, Monogram, GB Track or Carerra cars from last season’s Classic Sports Racer class.

2010 – 2011 season

Class 1 – Cheapies
- Cars must be Pro Slot Porsche 911, 911 GT2 or 911 GT3, Ferrari F355 or F360
- Green End Bell motor must be used

- Replacement pinion gear may be non-original and may be metal, but must have a tooth count between 9 and 11 inclusive. Replacement of spur gear with 36 teeth is permissible.
Class 2 – Vintage
- Sports cars and sedans that could have or did compete prior to 1966.
- Wheels may be changed
- Use of magnets is prohibited.
- Motor may be of any brand and rated at or below 18,500 rpm.
- Chassis must be in-line. Sidewinder or anglewinder chassis are prohibited.
Class 3– Super Touring and Rally
- Cars must be sedans and rally car based models (e.g. DTM, BTCC, ETCC, WTCC,WRC, SCCA Pro Rally and similar cars)
- These cars must be based on plastic RTR chassis and motor (plastic chassis only, e.g. no TSRF, Pro Track Spider, metal Monogram chassis).
- Use of magnets is prohibited
- All modifications are allowed, with the following exceptions/restrictions:
* Chassis must meet the body as from manufacturer.
* Body must be hard shell plastic or resin with a driver figure, an interior, and “glass” present
* No holes may be cut in chassis.

Class 7 - Stock Car
- Cars must be NASCAR, USAC, or other American stock car series racers.
- In-line cars (older style Scalex only) may add two (2) Radio Shack dot magnets inside of chassis on top of existing bar (the only location allowed).
- Sidewinder cars must run the stock bar magnet in any factory prepared, chassis position.
Class 8 – GT/Production Sports
- This class is for all production-based sports and GT cars, not one-off cars race cars built for the road (e.g. SCCA Production classes, GT class, ALMS GT and GTS, FIA GT
- Motors must be rated below 21,500 rpm.
- One PMTR1063 magnet may be used and may be placed in a non-stock location inside the chassis. Magnet may be cut, sawed, filed or broken to fit into the chassis. No holes may be cut in the chassis to add magnets or to make the magnets flush with the bottom of the chassis. Chassis may not be shaved or thinned to reduce magnet distance to the track and/or increase magnet effectiveness. Magnet holders may be shaved down to height of surrounding frame, e.g. Marcos.
- Revell / Monogram cars may use stock magnet location on bottom of chassis.
- Rear axle may be replaced. Rear axle bushings may be replaced. Ball or roller bearings are prohibited. Rear wheels may be replaced.
- Motor pinion gear may be replaced and crown or spur gear may be replaced – however gear ration must remain the same.
Class 9 – Modern Formula One
- Scalex Formula One from 2001 to present.
- Cars must be authentically liveried
- A car may be “re-liveried” to make it look like another actual race car
Class 10 - Modified Sports Prototype
- Must be sports prototype body, open or closed allowed (e.g. Can-Am, IMSA/WSC prototypes, Lemans/ALMS P1-P2, IMSA GTP, FIA Group C, Daytona Prototypes).
- All modifications are allowed, with the following exceptions/restrictions:
* Chassis must meet the body as from manufacturer.
* Body must be hard shell plastic or resin with a driver figure, an interior, and “glass”.
* Magnets that are added must be inside/topside of chassis.
* No holes may be cut in chassis to add magnets or make magnets flush with bottom of chassis.
* All stock locations can be used with upgraded magnets, except cars that have stock magnet locations on the underside of the chassis, in which case the original OEM magnet may be used, but no upgrade or modification may be made to magnets in this positions. Magnet holders may be shaved to the level of the surrounding chassis.
* Tires must fit under the unmodified body.
- Cars must be based on plastic RTR chassis and motor
- Wings must be in place at the start of each race, both front and rear

General Rules for Iowa Model Auto Racers (IMAR)
2010 – 2011 Rules for Building and Construction
1. All cars must be of 1/32 scale. Cars must be stock RTR, meaning car comes as a unit with body, chassis, gears, tires, axles, interior, motor, etc. No modifications allowed except as permitted by general and/or class rules.
2. When a car becomes available that seems to upset the competitive balance of a class, the club may legislate equalizing modifications to, or exclusion of, the car. Any club member may nominate an unequal brand or model and the rules marshals will decide the outcome of the car.
3. All tires, except foam, can be used, in all classes.
4. Cars should have all 4 tires touching the track or the wheels and axles must be of original equipment or stock replacement. Solid front axles may replace stub axles in all classes.
5. Tires must fit under the car completely when viewed from above, or be in the stock position.
6. All cars must have numbers in three places.
7. All cars must have interiors and drivers similar to RTR manufacturer. If car came with full interior, then it must race with one (in MSP and Super Touring, interior may be trimmed slightly to accommodate motor and/or magnet upgrades as allowed, but still must be present and covering the inside of the car to the same degree as from the manufacturer). All cars must retain the “glass” as provided by manufacturer.
8. Painting and detailing are allowed in all classes.
9. Weight may be added in any amount and in any manner, but must be dead weight. Weight added must be inside/topside of chassis and chassis cannot be modified in any way to accommodate the adding of weight.
10. Replacement parts must be stock replacement or equivalent parts unless otherwise approved by Rules Marshalls.
11. Allowable tuning procedures.
-Any motor break-in regimen. Tire truing and sanding. If the tire is treaded, original tread pattern must be visible. Components both mechanical and cosmetic may be glued. Guide shoes may be trimmed. Axle shims may be added. Any lubes and cleaners may be applied anywhere but must not be allowed to get on the track.
12. Resin and hard shell plastic bodies (e.g. model kits) may be used so long as they are approximately the same weight as the original and cover the chassis to same degree as if from factory. Original interior type must be maintained as defined above. Determination of tires and wheels will follow the manufacture of the original/donor chassis if stock wheels and tires are required by class rules. Chassis so rebodied must be from a car that is legal in the class where the rebodied car will be raced. Chassis may be trimmed around the periphery only enough to allow
fitting to the body.
I.M.A.R. Rules for Club Procedure
2010 / 2011
1. The person that is operating the lap counting /timing device and master power switch shall be the Race Marshall.
2. A Driver may borrow a car from another Driver. This must be done before the first race of the class in which the borrowed car will be used begins.
3. There is no pre-race tech, but a challenge by a Driver on the basis of legality is allowed. Cars may be inspected by the Rules Marshall when a protest is lodged or at any time for violations at his discretion.
4. Cars found to be in violation of the rules will not be allowed to participate until inspected and approved by the Rules Marshall. If a car scored points and was found after race to be in violation of rules, points will be taken away for that race and redistributed as if that car had not participated.
5. Weekend sessions will run 10 classes unless otherwise agreed upon by club members in advance of race session.
6. Race Lengths for Sprint Events
Non-magnet classes – Heat 10, Semi 10, Feature 15 Jerry and Steve’s
Magnet Classes – Heat 10, Semi 10, Feature 15 Jerry and Steve’s
Race lengths may change due to track used for a particular race session and number of participants, but will be decided prior to the start of racing for a given class.
7. Each driver is allowed 2 de-slots per race in all classes.
8. If a single car deslots it will be placed back on the track where it comes to rest unless in doing so the car gains a position.
9. If a car, by de-slotting, causes another car(s) to de-slot, all cars shall be replaced at the point they became de-slotted, however, the car causing the de-slotting of subsequent cars must be replaced physically behind the cars it de-slotted. In the event of a de-slot, a driver is required to turn off the track power using the lane’s power switch as promptly as possible. The Race Marshall may also initiate a power off situation.
10. The use of any substance to gain traction on tires or tracks is prohibited. Specifically, the use of STP Oil Treatment or other “goop” substances is not allowed in any way. Tires may be cleaned with lighter fluid, Tiger’s Milk or other similar substances designed to clean tires…not to make them sticky and goop up the track.
11. Points will be awarded to drivers on a 10-0 basis as follows:
First – 10; Second – 9; Third – 8; Fourth – 7; Fifth – 6; Sixth – 5; Seventh – 4; Eighth – 3; Ninth – 2; Tenth – 1; Eleventh - 0
12. Lane choice will be determined by average points per start. Lowest APS selecting first in each heat, except for the first race in each class of the season which will be done by random drawing (see separate sheet). The Race Marshall will call out lane selection per driver. The Driver must promptly announce lane choice. If the Driver does not announce lane selection promptly, he may be moved to the end of the rotation for that race. There will be a 1-minute warm-up/practice commencing when all drivers are at their stations.
13. Each Driver is allowed two, 2-minute pit stop for mechanical reasons during a race meeting. When a Driver calls for his/her pit stop, the Race Marshall shall keep track of this time. The race shall stop for the duration of the pit stop and the Race Marshall will then restart the race at the end of the pit stop in accordance with normal starting procedures. Other drivers may not work on their cars during a pit stop called by another driver without also taking their own pit stop. One braid adjustment stop is allowed per driver per race and shall not count as a pit stop.
Other drivers in the race may not practice during another’s “pit stop” once the race marshal has called cars to the starting grid.
14. A Driver may not change cars once his heat race begins.
15. The Rules Marshall shall be a committee of three elected by a majority of members present at the first race of the season. They will resolve all questions of rules and procedures. The ruling of the Rules Marshall shall be final.
16. Every attempt will be made to run at least one race session per month beginning in September and ending in May.
17. Any issue needing a vote by the club members shall be done on the basis of a simple majority of the members present at the time of the vote.
18. At the track owner’s request, a 5:00 pm curfew may be imposed.

There will be a 1-minute warm-up/practice commencing when all drivers are at their stations.
13. Each Driver is allowed two, 2-minute pit stop for mechanical reasons during a race meeting. When a Driver calls for his/her pit stop, the Race Marshall shall keep track of this time. The race shall stop for the duration of the pit stop and the Race Marshall will then restart the race at the end of the pit stop in accordance with normal starting procedures. Other drivers may not work on their cars during a pit stop called by another driver without also taking their own pit stop. One braid adjustment stop is allowed per driver per race and shall not count as a pit stop.
Other drivers in the race may not practice during another’s “pit stop” once the race marshal has called cars to the starting grid.
14. A Driver may not change cars once his heat race begins.
15. The Rules Marshall shall be a committee of three elected by a majority of members present at the first race of the season. They will resolve all questions of rules and procedures. The ruling of the Rules Marshall shall be final.
16. Every attempt will be made to run at least one race session per month beginning in September and ending in May.
17. Any issue needing a vote by the club members shall be done on the basis of a simple majority of the members present at the time of the vote.
18. At the track owner’s request, a 5:00 pm curfew may be imposed.

-You may replace rear wheels with plastic press-on (only) wheels

2010 rules
Folks:
After the last I.M.A.R. race of the season at Jerry’s track we finished fairly early and so the assembled racers held an impromptu discussion regarding rules and any possible changes for next season. This was not a Rules Meeting, instead merely a discussion to perhaps streamline the eventual Rules Meeting and to raise issues that need to be considered. If anyone has further suggestions or comments, feel free to reply and I will post for all to consider. AGAIN – THIS WAS A DISCUSSION, NOT A RULES MEETING AND WE ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING RULES PROPOSALS FOR THIS COMING SEASON.
We also thought it would be a good idea to hold a Rules meeting in July, probably at Jerry’s house to discuss and vote on any rules changes. We will await a date from jerry when we can hold this meeting. T is also thought that we could use the Rules Meeting as a practice session – if time allows.
As before folks who can’t make the Rules Meeting can submit proxy votes with attendees and their vote will be counted. The key factor here is that if you have ideas for rules changes – please submit them so that we can all review and consider them before the Rules Meeting. This should save us time during the meeting itself.
Here are some of the prevailing opinions voiced during this discussion:
· Opinion was voiced that we ought not to make very many changes to the rules at all for next season
o Opinion was voiced that we ought to limit rules changes to perhaps two classes or so, perhaps every year. The thought being that too many changes are disruptive to the continuity of the club and may confuse and possibly alienate some members. That is what we seek to avoid.
§ that these changes be made to either simplify rules or make classes more accessible to both new and prior members
· Strong opinion was voiced that we allow tire changes in all classes so that you could use tires of choice in all classes – not wheels of choice – tires of choice
· Opinion was voiced that IRL Class be eliminated
o Reasoning
§ That these cars seem not to be readily available any more, let alone for the cheap prices that once predominated
§ That they are difficult to repair and that replacement parts seem not to be not readily available
· e.g. The wings have broken off many and they don’t look good
§ That with the F1 cars we have another open wheel class and IRL seemed not to be a real favorite
· Opinion was voiced that perhaps we create a “double or split” class from the Classic Sports Racers Class.
o What this means is that we would essentially split this class into two separate classes.
§ Class A would use either current rules or very similar rules, so folks could still race their current entries. Meaning that the SlotIt cars would be legal
§ Class B would use a different, more restrictive set of rules, quite possibly the same or very similar to older rules for this class
· Class B would race specific make of cars
1. Thoughts were that Fly Classic cars and perhaps Monogram cars, unmodified and pretty much stock (tire change allowed if rule suggestion passes) so folks could race the cars they used to race several years ago
1. Tire change seen to be critical in this class because of low quality and durability of Fly tires (anyone have any strange liquid oozing from old Fly tires – I do!)
2. Most people thought that if we continue this as a magnet less class it would even things up more readily
· Opinion was voiced that GT Class rules perhaps be modified – it has always been the toughest class to regulate due to the wide variety of car choices.
§ A suggestion – move to a manufacturer specified rule (e.g. only Scalex cars allowed with few changes)
· Strong opinion was universally voiced that we ought to enforce the rules universally and without exception – meaning that we will not allow non-conforming cars to race – ever. Even if that car is not competitive.
